Crantock Bakery pasties hit the beach in Cyprus.

An award-winning manufacturer of Cornish pasties now have their products on sale in Cyprus, as a Cornish couple open the country’s first pasty shop.

Crantock Bakery have just delivered a consignment of 40,000 blast frozen pasties and scones to the newly opened shop, ‘The Pasty Mine’, run by Jon and Julie Carter.

The couple, formerly of Par in Cornwall, opened the pasty shop in the popular Cypriot resort of Ayia Napa, located just 300 metres from the beach.

“The response has been absolutely fantastic; in the first week alone we’ve sold over 1,000 pasties,” said owner Julie.

“It’s not just the holidaymakers that have shown an interest since the shop officially opened on April 21. Locals have been really interested in sampling a traditional Cornish Pasty and they keep coming back for more.”

The pasties sold in The Pasty Mine are all made at Crantock Bakery in Cornwall to a traditional Cornish recipe, and hand crimped before being blast frozen ready for transportation.

The overseas outlet is the latest opening for the Newquay-based bakery. Crantock Bakery’s Cornish pasties can already be found in shops across Spain and Portugal.

“The opening in Cyprus is another example of Crantock developing new markets not just in the UK, but across Europe,” said Nick Ringer, Managing Director of Crantock Bakery.

“We are delighted to bring the much loved Cornish pasty to a wider audience and we are thrilled the shop has been so well received by the Cypriot locals.”
