Delicious local produce is on the menu this month as Cornish farms open their gates to raise money for local charities.

Cornish Farm Holidays members are holding three “all-day breakfast” events on Saturday 30th January as part of Farmhouse Breakfast week, which runs from 24th to 30th January 2010.

Last year the group’s events raised £5,840, as well as showcasing some of the county’s best local produce - some sourced from the farms themselves.

Cornish Farm Holidays Chairman Carolyn Care said: “Our members have been taking part in Farmhouse Breakfast Week for the past 10 years, and the events always make a good sum of money for the charities; they are very well attended and people are very generous.

“We have lots of great local food producers in Cornwall and we support them by using as much local produce as we can throughout the year. Together, our members cook a huge number of breakfasts every year and our guests love the traditional Cornish bed and breakfast hospitality that comes with a farmstay holiday.”

This year three farms from across the county will be holding events. All breakfasts cost £7 per person and no advance bookings are required.

The farms taking part in 2010 are:

Degembris Farmhouse, near St Newlyn East. Saturday 30th January, 8am to 6pm.
Mother and daughter Kathy Woodley and Hannah Elford will be cooking breakfast all day using eggs, bacon and sausages all from their local butcher, L. George in St Newlyn East. It’s their first time taking part in Farmhouse Breakfast Week – they have, however, cooked thousands of breakfasts before for B&B guests at their 16th Century farmhouse. Money raised will be shared between Cancer Research and the Children’s Clinic For Cornwall. More information from Hannah Elford on 01872 510555. www.degembris.co.uk

St Buryan Community House, Newlyn Road, St Buryan. Sat 30th January, 9am-3pm.
Several Cornish Farm Holidays members in the area are joining forces to serve full cooked breakfasts, with bacon and sausages from Chegwidden Farm and eggs from members’ hens. They are supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance and St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle. More information from Julia Hosking on 01736 810705.

Bucklawren Farmhouse, St Martins by Looe. Saturday 30th January, 9am to 4pm.
Jean Henly and friends will be cooking breakfast at the 400 acre working farm to raise money for Shelterbox and St Martins Church, Looe. There will also be a Bring and Buy sale in aid of Children’s Hospice South West. More information from Jean Henly on 01503 240738. www.bucklawren.com
