Baby photographer making a big splash in north Cornwall.
Parents in Cornwall can now have stunning photographs taken of their babies swimming underwater thanks to a new service from a local company.
Bubble Pixels specialise in taking underwater photographs and video footage of babies – a service which is proving extremely popular with mothers and fathers who want a memorable record of a special moment.
The photos are taken by Beate Rothon, a qualified swimming instructor who has run lessons in North Cornwall for babies and toddlers for the past five years.
“I first started taking underwater photographs when my daughter was a baby; it was very special to get the underwater image and my daughter and I both still treasure this special photo,” said Beate.
“To get the best results your baby must be comfortable in the water, and they need to be a confident diver. Age really doesn’t matter; the most important thing is that the baby enjoys swimming and loves being in the pool.”
Parents and babies can have their photos taken by joining Beate’s swimming sessions at Hustyns, near Wadebridge, and several other locations in north Cornwall. Individual photo and video sessions at Hustyns can also be booked by appointment.
Beate uses the latest digital camera equipment to make the process of capturing the images as relaxing and unobtrusive as possible for the baby.
“Years ago taking an underwater picture meant a diver, dressed in black with a mask and a huge camera with a powerful flash. In same cases this can be a little bit too much for the little ones,” Beate explained.
“By using the new technology of smaller cameras in a bright underwater housing and as little other equipment as possible, I try to make it as pleasant as possible for parents and babies.
“Digital images can be viewed at once, so there is no need to take any unnecessary photos. It is always important to work with the babies’ needs, particularly in finding the right time of the day when he or she enjoys the water most, and at a calm venue where lighting is perfect.”
