Norfolk hosts Britain's best kitesurfers at the Lifestyles Extreme Sports Festival (10 to 12 July).
The British Kitesurfing Association return to Norfolk from 10 to 12 July as Round 2 of the National Championships comes to Hunstanton.
Forming part of the Lifestyles Extreme Sports Festival, the country's best kitesurfers will be competing for vital UK Championship points, as well as demonstrating this fast-growing sport which is great to watch.
"We are really happy to be returning to Hunstanton’s lovely beach and to Lifestyles 09 for the third year in a row," said BKSA Chairman Richard Gowers. "Last year saw two days of wind and some outstanding riding to complete all of the classes in this eco-friendly wind-driven sport."
Competitors will be coming from all over the UK to take part, with the Pro Men and Pro Ladies divisions fighting for a prize fund of £1500. Joining them will be fleets of Amateur Men, Amateur Ladies, Seniors (Over 35) and Juniors.
Also on the competition side is a Freestyle BMX and Skateboard Jam featuring some of the top UK riders including Dave Chesson, Jake Bartlett and Dan Leech. The bikes and boards will be piloted into spins, jumps and crazy tricks over the Saturday and the Sunday over the ramps on the seafront.
And spectators inspired by watching the professionals in action can try out a series of new sports for themselves. Activities include workshops in beach volleyball, 5-a-side football, trampolining and climbing. There will also be breakdance demos throughout the weekend.
The BKSA will also be running free Power Kite taster lessons for members of the public, so if you have never had a go come on down and see what great fun and exercise it is for all members of the family. These workshops will be running all weekend.
Friday and Saturday night sees local bands play on the seafront. For a full timetable of activities and events at the Lifestyles festival, and to book a camping pitch, visit the website: www.lifestylesfestival.co.uk
Regional event organiser Tony Devenish commented: "It is great to have the BKSA back for a third year with the support of all the other local sponsors on board making the event bigger and better for everyone in the region.”
Kite surfing has been hailed one of the fastest growing water sports in the world and is conducted on open areas of water, which can be shallow or deep, flat or bumpy, in preferably constant winds from 8 to 50 knots.
